Field of Communication

According to the dictionary, what is communication is defined as “…a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior…”

In olden times, humans communicated by using smoke signal, light signals, sound signal and messengers.

The first communication device, the telegraph was invented by Samuel F.B. Morse in 1837.

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. The telephone has enable us to speak to another person at a faraway place.

In 1895, Guglielmo Marconi invented the wireless telegraph—the earliest radio that send and received signals without using wire.

In1900s, J.L  Bird invented the television which is a system of sending and receiving pictures and sounds through the transmission of electronic signal.

After the invention of the transistor in 1948, which is an important component in radios, simpler and smaller two-way radios called walkie-talkies were invented. Walkie-talkies are used for short-range communication, for example, among construction workers and security personnel.

The first computer was invented in 1944 by IBM Corporation in America. Computers have now become popular and are very useful devices in communication, especially after the internet was developed during the 1980s.

Thee first cellular telephone also known as the cell phone was tested in the late 1970s. Cell phones are wireless mobile phones that users can use to communicate with each other while travel.

The launch of various communication satellites has improved the function and effectiveness of various communication tools.

Teleconferencing technologies were introduced in 1980s and 1990s. Teleconferencing systems have made distance education possible. Teachers can talk with, hear and see students located around the world using teleconferencing systems.
